The Black Death
The Black death across when the English and the French fought in the Hundred Year’s War. The Black Death was a plague that swept through Europe in 1347 and 1351. the origin of this plague was central Asia. Without knowing traders brought supplies with rats in them that carried the disease to the Mediterranean ports in 1347. From the port it spread through all of Europe. Fleas sucked the blood out of the rats which then sucked the blood out of people and passed on the disease. The black death did not come from one disease but from multiple forms of plague. One of these disease was called the bubonic plague it is identified by swelling called buboes would appeared on the victim's body. Another even deadlier form would spread through the air and could kill within a day.
The Black death killed so many people that some were buried without any ceremonies or priest. People would try to dig huge graves to bury the dead but the victims were often infected leaving nobody to finish the job. Some of the villages had special carts to pick up the dead bodies covering the streets. The streets were covered in trash and had bad conditions that were perfect for the rats carrying the disease to live. Almost everybody thought it was the end of the world. In most of the villages almost everyone died or fled because some their neighbors felt sick. They left their villages and spread the disease even farther. About 1,000 villages were abandoned in England alone. The Black death did not just kill in Europe but people all around the earth. This huge drop of population in Europe lead to many drastic changes. Some historians believe that Europe population dropped more than one third of the population which is pretty close to 25 million people.
Most of the Manor system crumbled completely because of there were nobody left to work the fields. The small amount of peasants and serfs that survived all of the plagues found that their skills were in high demand and were even payed for their labor. After the peasants and serfs had enough money they fled the manor completely and moved to Europe growing cities. The Black death changed the society completely.
