Eleanor of Aquitaine
By: Ella U.
Eleanor of Aquitaine was once the most powerful women of Europe in the high middle ages. She was Queen of both France and England. We remember her today because she was the first women to go on the crusades. She is also known for standing up for what she believes in and not letting other peoples thoughts get in her way. An example of this is that she went on the crusades when everyone told her that this was a mans job not the queens. When she went on the crusades she went with her husband followed by some of her royal women and also 300 non-noble vassals. She insisted that she did not act and was not treated as a wife but as someone who came to lead their soldiers. She was powerful and demanding and there are still many things to show that.
It almost seemed like Eleanor’s life was not even close to over but instead just beginning. When she came back from the second crusade it felt like her life had just begun. She later became a great political leader of Europe. She was very wealthy and had a lot of land.
